Hi, I’m John Payne. I am an Experience Designer and Design Researcher. I’m interested in the interplay of technology, culture, and human behavior—in particular, the interventions possible via the artifacts and situations that designers create. That’s what you’ll find here.

I work at Moment, a digital product design firm I co-founded in New York in 2002. My recent work explores the positive contribution that mobile technologies and experience design can make to healthcare, with a particular focus on participatory medicine and chronic disease. In addition to consulting work, I have lectured and taught courses on design methodology at NYU, Parsons New School for Design, and Pratt Institute.

I am also on the committee to organize EPIC, the Ethnographic Praxis in Industry Conference.

If this site isn’t enough for you, you’ll also find me on Tumblr, Twitter, Flickr, Last.fm, Diigo, and Linkedin.
